General
Information
We have compiled this Wheelchair Compatibility
Tool to enable you to easily find the most suitable for wheelchair for
the size of CAPS II seating system. We supply either a Passive Locking
Interface or Standard Levelling Board to enable the CAPS II or MiniCAPS
Seating systems to be used with a wide range of wheelchairs and bases.
By selecting a wheelchair from the drop down box, it is possible to see
that sizes of seating system that will fit into which size of that particular
wheelchair.
You can browse all wheelchairs using the Wheelchair
Browser. Click on the image to find out which size of seat is compatible
with which size of wheelchair.
If you have decided upon or already know the size of the CAPS II or MiniCAPS
Seating System, select the size from the drop down list. This will show
you a list of compatible wheelchairs for that size of seat. Click on the
image for further information. If you do not see a particular base listed
for that size of seat, check through the Wheelchair
Browser.
If a size is not listed, please contact us
as it may be possible to interface the seat into a wheelchair or size
that is not listed.
Standard Levelling Board
A Standard Levelling Board is suitable for use with a number of manual
wheelchair models. It is very simple to fit and acts to ensure that the
seating system is maintained in a horizontal position (hence the name
of the interface).
Passive Locking Interface
A Passive Locking Interface will be fitted to the wheelchair or base with
special brackets. The seating system will then lock into place onto the
interface board.
There are generally three main types of Passive Locking Interface. A 'hook-type'
interface will locate onto the wheelchair by hooking onto the wheelchair
seat rails as the wheelchair unfolds, and is removed as the wheelchair
is folded. It is therefore typically used on a wheelchair where the folding
function is to be maintained. A 'clamp-type' interface may be used where
the wheelchair may not need to be folded or where it cannot fold. It is
more commonly used on powerchairs. The interface is secured to the seat
rails using clamps attached to angle brackets. A 'flat-type' interface
uses flat brackets that are often bolted from underneath the interface.
It is used on wheelchair that have box or oval section seat rails, such
as the Spectra Plus or Travvla Modular.
Specific Interface Recommendations
The use of a Passive Locking Interface should always be considered and
is recommended for all powered wheelchairs. A Standard Levelling Board
is not suitable for use with a wheelchair or base that has a tilt-in-space
facility.
Specific recommendations that a wheelchair manufacturer makes about its
products should always be checked, especially with regard to limitations
or exclusions to use and weight limits (total combined
weight of the seating system and the user should be considered).
Wheelchair stability should always be tested within the appropriate guidelines.
Castor outriggers may be required to increase the stability of the overall
system.
Since wheelchair manufacturers may change the design or specification
of their products at any time, it is important to be sure that the interface
is securely fitted in accordance with all instructions provided with an
interface. If there is any query about the security of the fitting, please
contact us.
Joint Compatibility Statements
We have made a Joint Conpatibility Statement with a number of manufacturers.
These can be viewed through a wheelchair information page or you can view
the complete list.
