How 3D scanning supports custom contoured seating manufacture
For people whose requirements cannot be accommodated by modular seating, a custom contoured approach may be appropriate.
Our MAPS custom contoured seating combines digital shape capture with skilled finishing. Following assessment, the person’s body shape impression is captured using a vacuum bag and then scanned in 3D.
The scan data guides the carving of the foam. The seating is then finished by hand, fitted into a shell and provided with custom covers before being interfaced with the selected wheelbase.
Different foam densities can be used according to the assessed support and pressure management requirements.
This process shows how technology and manufacturing expertise contribute at different stages. Accurate digital information helps reproduce the agreed shape, while skilled production turns that information into a finished seating system.
Adaptable wheelchair seating for changing postural needs
